History to the Formation of the International Consortium for Universities of Education in East Asia

Objectives and Goals

As international mobility increases in this globalized era, arranging the environment for the internationalization of universities and graduate schools has also become an urgent issue in the field of teacher education. International cooperation to improve the quality of teachers has become particularly important as education becomes more sophisticated. Cooperation among universities in the East Asian region, which share common research topics, has also become especially important. The objectives and goals of this project as one specific measure were set as: (1) to form a consortium for universities of education and other bodies in the East Asian region, and (2) to advance international cooperation projects concerning issues in teacher education overall.

Formation of the International Consortium

The International Consortium began from an agreement reached among the participating universities at the December 2006 International Symposium on the Teacher Training System in East Asia (sponsored by Tokyo Gakugei University) for the formation of a cooperative consultative body concerning issues in teacher education, that is, a consortium. As a result of subsequent examinations with the main universities of education that are the prospective core members, the International Consortium for Universities of Education in East Asia was officially formed on December 18, 2009.

Intended International Cooperation Projects

The International Consortium has initiated the following projects, and intends to continue to develop these works.
